KM4Dev, RealKM, & K4DP call for recognition of the importance of libraries and archives for sustainable development

This paper has been published as part of the RealKM-KM4Dev-K4DP knowledge management (KM) and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) campaign.

The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development envisions a world with universal literacy. Access to information is well articulated in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 16, with target 16.10 aiming to ‘Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements’. This justifies the importance of libraries and archives for sustainable development.

This paper explores the role of libraries and archives in achieving the successful delivery of the SDGs, with a series of eight recommendations for action.
