KM & SDGs Update #3: Revision 2 of Pact for the Future disappointing, but important consultation on 31 July

This is a 23 July 2024 update of the knowledge management (KM) and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) campaign that is being collaboratively coordinated by RealKM Cooperative Limited, the Knowledge Management for Development Community (KM4Dev), and Knowledge for Development Partnership (K4DP).

Revision 2 of Pact for the Future is disappointing

As expected, a new version (Revision 2) of the Pact for the Future was released on 17 July, at the end of the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). But, despite our campaign actions both before and during the HLPF, Action 35 in the Pact for the Future (which was formerly Action 30 in Revision 1) has not been changed to reflect multiple knowledges and their complexity, as put forward in the article below (which has now been updated to reflect Revision 2).

There have been some small positive changes in the updated Action 35 in Revision 2, for example, indigenous knowledge is now included in the action title. But, disappointingly, Action 35 remains top-down and neglects the full range of multiple knowledges and their complexity.

Important consultation on Revision 2 on 31 July

However, we still have the opportunity to further advocate for the Pact for the Future to reflect multiple knowledges, with the UN convening a very important consultation session on Revision 2 on 31 July, as discussed in this letter.

Everyone who can possibly participate is encouraged to register and put forward our campaign call for action, which can be found in the second section of the previous campaign update.

Revision 2 is still failing to reflect multiple knowledges

Why the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will fail without a multiple knowledges approach.
