Australian academics seek to challenge ‘web of avarice’ in scientific publishing

Medical Journal of Australia editor-in-chief Emeritus Professor Stephen Leeder was sacked in April for opposing the outsourcing of some journal functions to scientific publisher Elsevier.  Following the sacking, academics are challenging the of control of scientific journals by a select group of publishing houses, in a fight against what they describe as the commodification of knowledge.
