New app wants you to spend more time with your kids

In a previous article we discussed research showing that the benefits of spending extra time at work are marginal. With international Children’s Day having just passed, it might be time to consider a new app that wants you to spend less time at work so that you can spend more time with your kids.

The inspiration for the app, called O’Daddy, came when Co-founder and CEO Oded Israeli could not take his smartphone into the hospital nursery after his daughter’s birth.

An article in Tech.Co reveals that O’Daddy helps parents in four main ways:

  1. Creating time – push notifications for parents to leave work and pay attention to their kids.
  1. Activity suggestion – according to the kids age, location, preferences, and other aspects.
  1. Focus on kids and not on work – when parents open the O’Daddy button, they enter “Quality Time” mode, which counts the time parents spend with their kids. If it reaches 15 minutes, they win “O’Daddy Smiles”, which can be redeemed for cash discounts at leading retailers in the near future.
  1. Tracking quality time – just as fitness apps, O’Daddy tracks the amount of time parents have been at home each week and what activities they did with each of their kids. Soon, it will be possible to anonymously compare how they are doing in relation to other parents using the app.

O’Daddy has prepared the following wallpaper revealing what Oded Israeli describes as his “genius formula”: the value of an extra hour at work = nothing!

If you have kids and are working long hours, it might be time to consider downloading both the app and the wallpaper.
