Summary report of stakeholder inputs to UN 2027 GSDR reflects RealKM submission
The UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) has published a report summarizing stakeholder inputs to the 2027 edition of the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR). Stakeholders provided inputs in response to an online open call earlier this year, and I had responded to this call on behalf of RealKM Cooperative Limited.
Scheduled for release in September 2027, in advance of the 2027 SDG Summit, the 2027 GSDR will provide scientific guidance on the state of global sustainable development, address emerging challenges, and present actionable recommendations for governments and other stakeholders. The 2027 SDG Summit will review progress towards all 17 SDGs as the deadline for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development approaches.
The call for inputs summary report reflects my RealKM submission, with one of the references I had suggested now being listed as a scientific references that the 2027 GSDR should consider. This reference is our landmark KM & SDGs campaign journal editorial1 “We urgently need multiple knowledges to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”
Consistent with the multiple knowledges approach put forward in this editorial and also the closely aligned responses of some other stakeholders, the summarized inputs in the report include:
- In regard to lessons learned from stakeholders on integrated implementation of the SDGs, “Complementing science with Local Wisdom: Integrate local wisdom and indigenous knowledge into decision-making processes.”
- In regard to naming one thing that the 2027 GSDR could do to strengthen the effectiveness and usability of the report, “Voices from the Margins: The 2027 GSDR should formally recognize and integrate Indigenous and local knowledge, grassroots shadow reports, and the lived experiences of marginalized groups as actionable evidence.”
Successful policy influence requires sustained advocacy that continually and repeatedly puts key messages in front of decision-makers and also other people and groups who can similarly influence decision-makers. RealKM Cooperative Limited will be continuing to advocate into the future for the vital role that KM can play in helping to secure a sustainable future for humanity and the planet.
