Full Professor of Genetics, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)

Graduated in Agronomy at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, in 1986, obtained a Master's degree in Biology from Dalhousie University in Canada in 1990 and a PhD in Biological and Medical Sciences from the University of Bordeaux 2 in France in 1998. Has a long experience in behavior neurogenetics, working mostly on the following themes: genetic bases of emotionality; animal models of anxiety; development of genetic models; and genetic mapping in rodents. Has published 33 articles in ISI-indexed journals with an average of 50 citations per article. Was President and Secretary of the Brazilian Genetics Society (SC Region); Sub-Coordinator of the Graduate Program of Pharmacology at UFSC and Deputy Secretary for International Affairs of UFSC. He is the founder and coordinator of the Imagine Project of science popularisation, which acts in rural and indigenous communities since 2013. In 2016 received the honorary role of Global Ambassador of the Pan-African Network for the Popularization of Science & Technology. He is currently the Head of the Department of Cell Biology, Embryology and Genetics at UFSC and is the Regional Secretary of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) in the State of Santa Catarina.
