Read about the Knowledge Immersion Program, a project of the #ADB Innovation Hub, in strengthening tourism in Hoa Binh in Viet Nam through the deployment of two digitalization experts. #ADBInnovationHub #Digital #Technology
Working on #digital #technology in #development can be quite abstract on most days. Not uninteresting, but it can feel somewhat distant from the "real" human development challenges people face in their daily life. Technology is not an end in itself, it is there to mediate or enable something else. On occasion, I get a chance to connect my daily work with something quite concrete. I can reduce my usual cruise altitude from 30,000 to 6 feet and use my brain to think through a concrete challenge. This is the case with the work of my colleagues in Viet Nam which I've been involved in on the margins. Their essay (https://lnkd.in/gaFgJUP2) visually illustrates the potential for "real" impact that digital can make in people's lives. And this is just the beginning for the digital transformation and infrastructure improvements that communities around Hoa Binh Lake may embark on, opening their treasure to more #tourism - which we hope will be the sustainable and culturally sensitive type. This week, the Innovation Hub welcomed IDEO into our physical space, bringing new perspectives and valuable insights to innovation at Asian Development Bank (ADB). IDEO spent the week listening and researching how the ADB Innovation Hub can design tools to approach challenges from fresh angles. From gaining better insights into field environments to fostering experimentation to find solutions and helping to visualize and communicate ideas quickly. In addition, IDEO kickstarted our first Innovation Speakers' Series of the year, where we learnt from Charles Hayes on three techniques for how innovation can propel our work today under ADB’s New Operating Model: designing for dialogue, bringing divergent points of view together, and making ideas tangible. We're excited for IDEO's return later this year to prototype some of their ideas for enhancing innovation at ADB. #innovation #designthinking #adbinnovationhub
