KM4Dev, RealKM, & K4DP call for recognition of the importance of libraries and archives for sustainable development

The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development envisions a world with universal literacy. Access to information is well articulated in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 16, with target 16.10 aiming to ‘Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements’. This justifies the importance of libraries and archives for sustainable development.

This paper explores the role of libraries and archives in achieving the successful delivery of the SDGs, with a series of eight recommendations for action. The paper has been published as part of joint RealKM-KM4Dev-K4DP campaign activities in regard to knowledge management (KM) and the SDGs. For further information on the campaign see the Open letter to United Nations and world governments (please consider signing) and the Outcomes of KMGN HacKMthon 2023, with RealKM & KM4Dev.
