Why do people make bad decisions?

Seth Godin makes useful points about the factors which can cause us to make bad decisions (and which, from the outside can be judged as “stupid”). His list includes:

  • Bad analysis
  • Willful ignorance
  • Lack of cultural understanding
  • Inability to read people
  • Being distracted
  • Acting in a self-destructive way
  • Being overly emotional
  • Being afraid
  • Being unwilling to be right
  • Making slow decisions
  • Short-term selfish behavior
  • Rushing to judgment

The whole piece is worth reading — it’s quite short.
